false report about Firefox...buttons aren't shown just in case of no comments

however mobile keeps not showing them

Could you please deactivate all other plugins, switch to some default theme and check again? 

Changing the theme shows them. A similar problem with icons in email and author fields. There seems to be a conflict with Font Awesome. I have already tried a couple of fixes found online but they din't work.

Actually, they are 2 separate issues: sort buttons don't show whatever the theme, email and author icons appear changing the theme.

I'm sorry but this is a theme specific issue and cannot be solved by wpDiscuz side. You need to contact the theme support to solve the issue.
