Any ideas how to troubleshoot? For good measure I've selected each type of post to allow media uploads. See attached.

The BuddyPress community system doesn't have any relation to wpDiscuz comment plugin. wpDiscuz and all wpDiscuz addons are designed for WordPress native comment system. It's loaded on single pages like posts and other posttypes. The BuddyPress community is not based on WordPress comment system, there is no way to use wpDiscuz and addons on that pages.
