wpDiscuz: separate comments in second WordPress

Hello,

We haved recently change from the third party provider Disqus to an own comment system based on wpDiscuz.

wpDiscuz ist realy great but unfortunately the number of database connections and the db load has nearly doubled.

We have ~300k pageviews per day on our site and performance/stability is very important for us.

Our idea was now to separate wpDiscuz and our comments in a second WordPress installation only for the comments.

Of course this will need development power to customize wpDiscuz to a service, which returns the comments to the related post.

Do you think this could work or do you have better suggestions?
