Hey there,

I use wpDiscuz and like it a lot.

I've been notified that my site is violating the Google Adsense Policy by passing along personally identifiable information (PII) to Google.

I've done some research and I believe this occurs when commenters subscribe/unsubscribe to be emailed when new comments are left on a particular post.  I think their email address is in the URL  and that URL is sent to Google to serve Adsense so they consider that to be passing along personal information.

In these cases, Google suggests using Post instead of Get to pass along personal info so the email address isn't in the URL.
https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/6156630?hl=en&ref_topic=6162392#form

I've included part of the message from Google in an attachment.

Does that make sense? Is it possible to change the form method? I'd hate to disable the subscription option because many readers seem to like it but I can't afford to give up AdSense.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Trevor,

We have already finished developing. Our testing stuff is currently testing.

I think it will be ready in next month.

Ugh. Is there any way to get this fix made sooner than a month?

I've had to disable Adsense on my site because of this issue. Now, I have been informed from my ad network that they have been contacted by Google and, because of this issue, they will soon stop serving all advertising to my site. This is how I support myself and pay my employees.

Even if I disable the plugin, people who have received a wpDiscuz generated email in the past can still click the unsubscribe link and that will forward the PII to Google.

As you can see, this is creating a serious problem for my company and I suspect others are going to have the same issue as Google cracks down on sites that aren't adhering to their privacy policy.  If you can't fix it quickly, I'd suggest adding a warning to the subscription option so other people who install wpDiscuz won't have the problem I'm having.

I've had to turn off the subscription option.

If someone clicks the unsubscribe link in one of the wpDiscuz generated emails, does their email address end up in the URL (as it does when they subscribe)?

Is there a way to stop wpDiscuz from sending out any new emails to existing subscribers? Do I need to delete the addresses out of the Wordpress database?

Trevor,

The table name should be "your db prefix_wc_comments_subscription"

You can delete from database, but please make a backup, in any case.

Hi,

Is it fixed?

Got a notification from Google today, checked the code and i can still see GET parameters in your code.

Still sending user emails in web address. Google don't like it.

"?subscribeAnchor&subscriptionSuccess=1&email=strefa@strefawalkingdead.pl#wc_unsubscribe_message"

So, I had to deactivate plugin.

To everybody - until dev will not fix and change GET to POST, WPDisquz is in breach with Google Adsense. Be careful.

Could you please specify where you see this URL? and do you use the latest wpDiscuz 4.0.2 version. This issue should be fixed in the latest version.
