I can get a picture to post but in thread you dont see the picture you see a tab that when you click it you see the picture.
am i missing a setting somewhere?

Please note wpForo Embeds addon is designed as a core post content replacer. It checks content provider URLs and replaces to content provider view (video, audio players, social network widgets, etc..). Embedding is not Uploading. You should purchase Advanced Attachments addon instead of Embedding addon.
wpForo Embeds is a 3rd party URL (Youtube, Soundcloud,...) embed-er addon.
wpForo Advanced Attachments is a file attachment plugin (image, video, audio, docs...)
You can use the code explained in this support topic to display the attached image file as an image:
