Hello,

We are using your paid addon wpDiscuz. Since yesterday we noticed an error: on some of the users, the avatars are not displaying and they are not linked to their profile (as you can see on the attached screenshot). The only thing we did with the plugin settings was to purge all avatar caches. After that everything disappeared. I should say that the avatars are displaying in the comments. It is only in the widget that we cannot see the avatars.

You can see it in the link: https://littercon.com/ru/2020/06/dushevnaya-raduga/

How can we solve this issue? Please help us.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @liudmyla-ponomarova,

Please navigate to the Dashboard > Comments > wpDiscuz > Settings > User Authorization and Profile Data, and make sure the  "Use guest email to detect registered account" option and check again.

More info here: https://wpdiscuz.com/docs/wpdiscuz-7/plugin-settings/user-authorization-and-profile-data/#use-guest-email-to-detect-registered-account

This option is enabled. We turned this option on yesterday evening, and the problem is still there. The avatars are not displaying. We purged caches multiple times. What should we do?

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

If there is no post created, wpDiscuz doesn't set it as a link, to avoid to go to link "page not found".
It seems the user does not have the post created, thus it can't be linked to their profile.

But those users have the post created. Before those same users had their avatars. The avatars disappeared after we purged avatar caches. Those users are the most active users on our website, who post regularly and comment. So the issue is still there.

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

As we can see the issue is fixed. Could you please confirm it?

@elvina No, the issue is not fixed. The avatars appear and disappear from time to time. We cannot understand why it changes all the time. For example yesterday the user had his avatar displayed, but another day it would disappear again. And for another user, the avatar appeared. And this happens all the time.

Hi @liudmyla-ponomarova,

The wpDiscuz simply uses the get_avatar() function that comes from WordPress. More info here: https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/get_avatar/

We think that the issue may be caused by the Jetpack plugin, so could you please deactivate that plugin and check again.

@elvina We deactivated Jetpack plugin, but as you can see, it did not help. We purged all the caches and check it in the private window of our browser, but nothing changed. The issue is still there.

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

Please navigate to the Dashboard > Comments > wpDiscuz > General Settings admin page disable the "Enable Gravatar caching" option and check again.

If the issue still exists, then it means there is a plugin conflict. Please deactivate the plugins one by one and check after each deactivation to find the problem maker one.

@elvina We tried to disable the "Enable Gravatar caching" option but it didn't help.

Also, right now we disabled all the plugins and only turned on your plugin and the problem is still there.

@liudmyla-ponomarova, @peter-johannesen,

Please update the wpDiscuz Widgets add-on to the latest version(v.7.0.2) and check again. The issue should be solved.

@elvina We updated the add-on to the latest version and it did solve the issue with the avatars. But there is another issue: some users aren't linked to their accounts.

Снимок экрана 2020 06 23 в 11.32.07

As you can see on the screenshot, some names are in bold and have links to the user's profile, while others don't have any link and aren't written in bold. Plus, one of our administrators is displayed in the widget while in the settings we checked to exclude the administrator from the widget. Here are the screenshots:

Снимок экрана 2020 06 23 в 11.36.05
Снимок экрана 2020 06 23 в 11.36.15

And one of the users has his email displayed as username, while in fact this user has posts and has his profile with a nickname:

Снимок экрана 2020 06 23 в 11.38.28

Moreover, when we installed the update, a message appeared:

Снимок экрана 2020 06 23 в 11.39.11

And we try to enter the key, but it said that the key is invalid. Can you help us activate the add-on? What should we do? Can you email us the right key?

Thank you in advance.

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

Sorry for the late response.

Plus, one of our administrators is displayed in the widget while in the settings we checked to exclude the administrator from the widget. Here are the screenshots:

There should not be such an issue. Please make sure you are logged in when you wrote these comments.

And one of the users has his email displayed as username, while in fact this user has posts and has his profile with a nickname:

This is something impossible. Please make sure that you did not fill the email address instead of the name.

And we try to enter the key, but it said that the key is invalid. Can you help us activate the add-on? What should we do? Can you email us the right key?

Please provide us your ORDER ID.

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

There should not be such an issue. Please make sure that you don't rename the folder name.
Also, I'll send you the key as a PM message.

@elvina We successfully activated the plugin.

Although the problem that the names are not linked to the user's account still exists.

Before there wasn't such an issue, the authors were logged in while writing the comments and the administrator too. But still, the administrator is displaying in the widget and the authors don't have links to their posts. Please help us solve the issue.

Hi @liudmyla-ponomarova,

wpDiscuz developers have found the reason of the issue. Some of the comments you wrote as a logged-in user, some of them you wrote as a guest, that caused the issue.
However, in the next versions update, we will try to fix it.

@elvina Unfortunately, it didn't help. You can try ( https://littercon.com/ru/category/news/  ), not every link leads to the author's profile. For example, users in the red rectangle lead to a common page, but not to their account (screenshot)

Снимок экрана 2020 06 28 в 00.43.09

Then, we can see that one user still doesn't have any link, here is the screenshot:

Снимок экрана 2020 06 28 в 00.43.38

And finally, the administrator is showed in the widget while it shouldn't be displayed, and of course, the admin was logged in while writing the comments:

Thank you in advance.

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

The wpDiscuz use the WordPress standard get_author_posts_url function. It seems there is some plugin that manipulates with the links and overrides them.

However, in future releases, we reconsider it, and users will be able to go to their profile page.

Then, we can see that one user still doesn't have any link, here is the screenshot:

Because you wrote the comments as a guest.

And finally, the administrator is showed in the widget while it shouldn't be displayed, and of course, the admin was logged in while writing the comments:

The developers checked one more time and say that some comments you wrote as a guest for sure, that cause the issue.

@elvina We checked and some of the authors wrote their comments without logging in, but we checked once again and the administrator for sure was logged in while writing the comments.

Before WP Discuz 7, there wasn't such an issue. We are waiting for the new release.

@liudmyla-ponomarova,

Below-provided comments the commenter wrote as a quest for sure.

https://littercon.com/ru/album/#comment-7168

https://littercon.com/ru/2020/06/dushu-poeta-ne-izmerit-rifmoj/#comment-24715

You can check it in the Database, you can see that for those comments the comment_ID is 0, in the wp_comments table.

Please note: wp_ is just a WordPress database tables default prefix. In your case, the prefix can be different.

@elvina

What if the user is writing the comment not logged in, but next time he writes a comment logged in? Does that mean that he will not be linked to his account? It wasn't like that before. Usually there was the option that it detects the email of the user and displays it as the author.

So if you say they were not logged in, does that mean that if a person is usually writing comments logged in, but one time they cannot authorize, and they wrote one comment without being logged in, therefore they won't have link to their account?

Also look at the most recent posts with this user (our administrator):

As you can see she was writing her comments while being logged in.

I really don't understand why it can be like that, because as I said previously, before there wasn't such an issue (even if users were not logged in).
