Hi everyone, for some time I've been trying to add a field in the user profile where he can add the phone number to connect it to telegram. I use 2 plugins that worked with buddypress, but with wpforo I have some problems.

The two plugins I use are: WP Telegram (Auto Post and Notifications), WP Telegram Login & Register

To display the field on any page, just paste this shortcode:

[wptelegram-login button_style="large" show_user_photo="1" corner_radius="15" show_if_user_is="logged_in"]

I read in another help request that shortcodes must be entered via the html field, so I created an html field

telegram campo utente

Then, I entered the field next to the password one

posizione campo profilo

After I saved everything and went to see in the profile, but the field is not displayed.

profilo utente

It is a real pity that among the fields to choose from, there are no widgets that can be selected from a list.

I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's something that doesn't work.
On buddypress pages it works, but I used a widget and not just a shortcode.

Thanks in advance and I hope that this solution can be useful to others too, so far I have been very happy with these 2 plugins, even in the free version.

I was hoping you would fix the problem sooner. I bought the license of this addon for this too, but after more than 11 days still nothing. I hope to fix it before the licenses expire..

@marco-rosini,

We think this is not wpForo issue. Shortcodes work fine in the addon. So this could be the telegram plugin issue. It has some checkings before displaying the data, or it's not initiated in wpForo pages.

Another important thing is the usergroups that could see the field. I recommend turn all these option on and delete all caches:

BTW, it's holidays, and we'll take another look at this issue after 6th January (as it's mentioned at the top of this forum). In the meanwhile I'd recommend contacting the telegram plugin developer and providing him the copy of User Custom Fields addon letting them check the issue. It's more possible to be fixed from their side.

Also, I see you use a shortcode to display a login button. Just make sure you test it when you're logged-out. All kind of login buttons will be automatically hidden if you're already logged-in.

The last thing is the cache. Make sure the profile root page and forum root page are excluded from your cache plugin, read the instruction: https://wpforo.com/community/faq/wpforo-and-cache-plugins/#post-37150

Hi Tom, after reading all your advice I have a doubt doing tests with users belonging to different groups. Eventually I found that when a user logs in the button disappears, so if a user is already logged in they don't see the button. Here is the arcane mystery discovered. I confirm that the html field also works with this shortcode.

I will now contact wp telegram developer to notify him about the bug in his plugin.

Thank you and happy 2023!
