After installing and activating the User Mentioning plugin I can only get it to work properly if I mention a user by their User ID. Using the "search" button and selecting a user that way simply does not work. It does not fire an email nor does it properly hyperlink the mentioned users' name with the fancy pop-up.

TL;DR

Nothing works if I use the @username or use the little search person button. Everything works fine if I use the User ID directly (@117).

Any ideas? Just bought this plugin and really need it to work!

Lastly - noticed that users with a single username (jpollock) work but users with hyphens don't (rigo-zevada-ce-cen )

Hi Christine

It works with usernames as well. But as far as I see it has some problem with hyphens. We'll check and update this addon as soon as possible.

Thanks Tom! Appreciate it!

About your sentence above of "It works for usernames as well", that isn't my experience at the moment. The only way I can get a mention to work is if I user the user ID. I'm attaching a screenshot of me trying the @ function in 3 ways:

  1. By username (doesn't work)
  2. By using the person search button (doesn't work)
  3. By using the persons user ID (works)

The attached screenshot shows the results of all 3 attempts as well as the settings for the user in question.

Thanks again for looking into this!

Username should not be numerical, please never allow people use numerical usrnames. This addon will not support it as well.

Thanks Tom, but numeric usernames are perfectly acceptable in the context of WordPress so I am unsure of how to respond to your comment.

Besides, our usernames are generated numerically as a business process that we have no control over.
