Hi,

I see the other posts on here about not being able to remove the "email" field from the comment form.  Is there a way to simply add "(not shown)" to the "Email" label in the form?  I just want my guests to know that, although they have to put an email in to post the comment, it won't be displayed on the page.  (My blog is for lawyers at big firms, and I think many potential commenters won't comment if they think they can't do it anonymously.)

Hi cll321,

Your users can comment without filling the email area. Also there is an option from admin page to allow anonymous comments:

Comment author must fill out email > checked/unchecked
Comment author must fill out name > checked/unchecked

Thanks--but sorry if I wasn't completely clear.

The current settings options are well understood.   The "name" and "email" fields still show up, regardless (even if their not required to be filled out).  But, ex ante, there's no indication of what's required.  The only way the user knows that it by trying to submit a comment without filling out certain fields.  And I have users for certain reasons that will shy away from anything that's not anonymous.  Becuase you don't know what's required or not until you try to post, and I'm worried that anyone reluctant to post non-anonymously won't even try, based on the fields, driving away potential commenters who glance at the comments forms, see the fields, and decide not to bother.

I've come across other apps that are formatted similarly, but the email field is labeled "Email (not displayed)".  That's what I'm hoping to achieve.  An easy, in the moment signal to the reader that they can comment, and their details won't be shown.  (I actually don't mind them actually filling out the fields, for spam-avoidance reasons.)

Hopefully that was a more clear explanation of my thought process.  Can we tweak the labels of the comment form?

Thanks again

If you are talking about an indicator of required/non required fields, we will add this.

That'd be helpful (and get mostly to the same result).  I was hoping I could edit the email field label (the actual text that displays in the box) to say "EMAIL (NOT DISPLAYED)" instead of just "EMAIL", but I gather that's not possible.
