I recently purchased the wpForo Advanced Attachments plugin, and have started working with it on a WpForo forum; so far so good.

The one thing I notice also bugs me about the forum we are coming from (IPB), where any pasted image defaults to PNG format.  This is fine/ideal for screenshots--but VERY few people know how to take a screenshot, much less use a photo editor to crop it.

As a result, most images are photos of real life items (even if that's just of a computer screen!)--which result in ginormous PNG files, very quickly consuming server storage space.

I noticed several Advanced Attachments settings regarding JPEG quality and rescaling--but no settings regarding PNG or default encapsulation format.

How would I go about changing the default "image encapsulation format" for wpForo Advanced Attachments from PNG to JPEG?  (Obviously, if a user specifically uploads a PNG file, it can stay as such.  I'm just referring to pasted images.)

Hi @sid-lori,

We unfortunately don't have that kind of function. Will send to the team for consideration.

Well, do you have any other options regarding changing the default media storage location from a fixed path (i.e. "wp-content") to potentially even a server type methodology?  Sort of like:

POST http://path.to/some/api/files?attachid=1
GET http://path.to/some/api/files?attachid=1
DELETE http://path.to/some/api/files?attachid=1

Something of that sort would allow automatic re-encoding of images as desired from the customer's perspective, taking the burden away from WpForo Advanced Attachments.

@sid-lori,

This won't work. But we have added a new option for PNG Compression level. It would be available in the new version.
