Hi, when deactivating Advanced Attachments, the images uploaded by users disappear. Does this mean when implementing Advanced Attachments, that sites are locked-in to using it forever? Is there any way to configure it so that it's not a lock-in plugin situation? It's not quite what I expected in terms of usability and design, and the thought of not being able to break free from the plugin in the future (without making user content vanish) makes it even less appealing...
Hi @c-s,
Please note that you can continue using our addons even after expression of the license. The license key is designed for getting new versions and updates, it'll not limit pr stop your addon when it becomes expired. The only thing can stop you using the addon after one year is incompatibility with new versions of wpForo and WordPress. This kind of issues mostly happens when a major (wpForo1.x or wpForo 2.x or wpForo 3.x) version is released. So you can use it for year the major version is being released every 2-3 years.
Regarding the images. The Advanced Attachment adodn is not just a file uploading addon, the main job of this addon is allowing you to put inline images (between texts) using its shortcodes . So the shortcode is rendered and replaced to image by the adoon function, that's why you cannot see those images when the addon is disabled. wpForo doesn't have such function and it cannot render inline images and shortcodes.
Thank you for the explanation. I actually had to deactivate the forum entirely because of sign up spam being so extreme - even with WP registration off, Captcha implemented, and other suggestions in your stop spam guide. Interestingly, the forum was activated for a while with no sign-up spam, but after activating the premium plugins, spam sign-ups were coming through every 1-3 minutes nonstop.
Additionally, the main reason for purchasing the bundle was for the Advanced Attachments feature, but it is not as expected. I definitely wouldn't want user images to rely on a shortcode for functionality and I think this should be stated before making a buying commitment.
After considering that the software may not fit the needs of the site, it seems like throwing $200 away just to find that out. Unless you have a fair refund policy within a reasonable timeframe?
