As above - when the ‘read more’ or ‘show replies’ button is clicked the loading bar can be present for up to 30 secs before the button activates.
We get a LOT of comments on our site and this delay makes the software almost unusable. It wasn’t happening prior to the last update.

follow up - it looks as if Jetpack is responsible for some of this. It certainly makes the problem worse. How do we get round this?

If I understand you correctly when the Jetpack is deactivated there is not such an issue, is it? It'd be better if you provide us some example URL to allow us to check it as well.
