I recently installed wpDiscuz, excellent plugin, already purchased one add-on & plan to buy more atlhough I want to make sure everything is running smoothly first.
After posting a comment (as myself, admin), if I go to refresh the page, navigate to another page, edit a comment, etc. (pretty much any activity), the page becomes unresponsive & often temporarily crashes my server.
My guess is that it might have to do with the fact that after making a comment or reply, my site begins to send out emails to all users that have subscribed to the comments to that post. That might not be an issue with sites with a relatively small number of users but with hundreds or even thousands, that is not only a big load on the server (firing off dozens, hundreds or even thousands of emails at once) but it makes that batch of emails ripe for the spam filters of email providers such as gmail, hotmail, etc. as they tend to flag large batches of emails sent at once from a domain as spam.
My suggestion (feature request) would be to add to the plugin settings a feature that will throttle the emails sent by the subscription into batches. I use MailChimp for my site now due to my large subscriber base but I used to use a WP plugin called "Subscribe2" for sending emails of new posts and they had (have) that feature where you could set a limit of the number of emails to be sent out in separate batches. That would alleviate the load on the server & minimize the chances of the smaller email batches being flagged as spam (I would set it to 49, which seemed to work well).
BTW- I am on a mid to high-level VPS hosting plan, not a low-budget shared plan. I also turned off the Live Update setting & the issue persists. Any other thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this issue would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi @randy-phinney,
Thank you for the suggestion. We'll take this into consideration for feature releases.
Thank you for considering the batch email sending feature. I would just ask that your team makes this a priority as I believe it is an important, even an essential feature to your plugin for sites with a large number of users or individual subscriptions on any comments.
I can tell you that I love this plugin but I may have to remove it soon as my site crashes frequently now anytime I make a comment & then click to navigate away from that page. I have little doubt that is due to my server working hard to process sending a large number of emails at once & then any other requests such as a new page load trips the 'circuit breaker' & crashes my site briefly.
Hope to see that feature soon, thanks again!
There are many 3rd Party plugin for this purpose. Please check out the following plugins:
