ReCaptcha questions

why the recaptcha has become like this (as shown in the image) instead of 'i am not a robot'? did i misconfigure something. it was ok until last night.

You should read more about reCPATCHA, we can't describe all logics of this captcha, it's very complicated. This pop-up photo chooser  can be shown after dozens of normal regular displaying. It may be shown for users who do something irregular. If you're not using CAPCTAH very frequently (dozens time within a hour) you'll never see this kind of screen.

how to translate the time thing (second box in in the image). other texts in the image are ok. those can be translated.

You don't need to translate it, it should detect the user language automatically and show all texts with local language. Those phrases comes from Google Servers and could not be managed.

ok tom, that 'i am not a robot' has come back but another problem has surfaced it now says (after i select correct pics or check the box)

Are you sure you don't use other reCAPTCHA and Simple CAPTCHA plugins? I see conflicts with other CAPTCHA plugins. Please remove if there ore one. Or change to others which doesn't affect comment form. Also those plugins may have options to disable for comments.
