We love wpDiscuz. Its function is fantastic. You've done a great job on it.
We've noticed that sometimes we get very large numbers of votes, in particular on political comments. This may be due to people being super-engaged, but quite possibly due to 'clever' people using a VPN to falsely boost votes on comments that support their political point of view.
I guess there are two things I'd like to be able to do, 1) Detect if there is such an abuse, and 2) restrict/limit/stop it.
The knowledge of VPNs will only become more widespread to readers, so sadly the issue of people cheating the wpDiscuz voting system is likely to become ever more pressing, if we're to avoid our commenting votes becoming distorted.
With 1) in mind - What's the easiest way for me to examine where (which IPs) votes on comments are coming from? My thinking, if I see votes coming in quick succession on a particular comment from different locations around the world, it's highly likely that someone is using a VPN to try and add extra votes.
2) Have you considered what a good way to counter this would be? Do you have a recommendation on the best action to take?
I've been thinking around how it might be fixed - and it is a tough one. Would you consider a feature where the Admin would be able to set the country votes would be accepted from? eg, if based in France, only accept French IP addresses.
What are the other ideas you've been considering?
