This to my users is the major drawback vs disqus. We migrated from Disqus and the main reason people miss it is because they leave a bunch of comments and they do not get notified if someone replies to them.
They do not want to subscribe by email.

So what i propose is a new addon.
This addon would add a "bell" to the top right of the site screen. When there are notification a number should indicate how many new notifications exist. When clicking this button it should display the last replies to a comment the user received with a link to the comment, so he can click it and reply. After that the notification counter should decrease by 1.

Please develop an addon like that i will buy it first day.

PS: The user should be able to chose if he wants to receive notifications of comments made on posts he created or not.

Lovely i'll keep checking if you release such addon. This is an example:
Ideally it would notify about replies to your comments and replies to comments made on your posts (for sites with multiple authors)

We are working on anew plugin called wpLive - Frontend Realtime Notifier. This will have the same functions and even more. We're planning to release it very soon.
