Hi Wpforo Team - We are using the PM addon and it works wonderfully well now that we have integrated it with our website. We are using PM addon to allow only a few members to be able to have "New Conversation" capability while others would not have that capability. Others can read the messages but cannot start a new conversation.

However, I realized that any member can goto /community/messages/[usernicename]/ and that starts a new conversation. I was wondering if there are any permissions for PM module where we can restrict "New Conversation" capability to only a set of users. These users (where we want to give New Conversation capability) have a specific WP Foro Security group assigned.

Hi @om-swami-meditations,

Go to Dashboard > Forums > Usergroups, edit an Usergroup and check Front - Can write PM option, disabling that option won't let the users of the current usergroup write PM

Thank you @kylew. That solution works but what we need is slightly different. When I remove that permission, the users cannot access the PM page at all while we just want to stop them from starting new conversations. They should be able to view and reply to any messages that come to them but they should not be able to start new conversations on their own. 

Is it possible to customize the permission through some hook to achieve what we are looking for? Kindly let us know.

This can be possible to do with gVectors Custom Work Team, but not for now, you can get back here after wpForo 2.0 Stable version release.
