To increase the number of the words please follow the steps below:
1. Enable content shortening option
2. You'll see a new option called "Number of words in shortened excerpts"
3. Configure the option as you like.
Regarding the links issue, we'll need some examples. Have you removed admin access for the testing website?
The issue with spacing is related to the shortcodes that have been removed. I.e there were not the spaces when the shortcodes were there, so after removing there is no space anymore.
