Hi, it seems only recently we are finding WPdiscuz not respecting the users Display name publicly as setting.

A user has updated their display name but it is still referring to the old setting. we have flushed all caches ensured setting is ok but no go. If you edit the comment it still shows old name.

Can you assist

Hi @tarik,

You should change the value of the "Display name publicly as" option. Navigate to Dashboard > Users admin page edit the user profile and change the value of the option.

i found the problem it was that the user hadnt signed in and had put their email etc in - and it didnt link up to their account (as they weren't logged in)

can you advise if the option to auto assign the comment to an existing user doesn't allow the admin email to be used? is there any protection to stop impersonating

Sometimes registered users comment as guest using the same email address. wpDiscuz can detect the account role using guest email and display commenter label correctly.

Please navigate to the Dashboard > Comments >Setting > General admin page, and make sure the  "Use guest email to detect registered account" is enabled. More info here:

We don't follow you well. How the users get your email address? Do you share it somewhere public?
