Hello,

just bought the addon and it's great, but this problem is almost a deal breaker for me.

Users now days upload images from their phone, and these images are HUGE, often 5mb+ and 4K resolution.

There is no way my host can handle such huge size of images if my traffic increases and I have thousands of such. And I don't want to reject image because they are more than an arbitrary weight, and i might also want to allow some group of users to upload some large 10mb other specific documents, so limiting image by weight is NOT a solution.

I really have no interest of serving such huge original image to anyone. It will just unnecessarily consume my bandwidth and disk space.

I'm very surprised that there is no way in an "advanced attachements" addon to specify the max dimensions of image as an option at least, so those users that want to serve the original images are free to do so but it is not forced onto us all.

I highly encourage you to implement this feature that any web plateform has built in, including default wordpress.

Thanks.

Hi @benj,

I've just asked our developers about it and currently, I'm waiting for the response from them. I'll update the topic asap.

@benj,

For now, you can decrease the "Maximum File Size" option and check. The option is located in the Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Addons > Attachments tab.

We will create the specific usergroup related "max allowed filesize" setting, thus you will be able to set different size for different usergroup.
For example:

admin - 100MB

moderator: 20MB

We've just added this feature in our to-do list.

Thanks, but I think this is a bad solution anyway.

Almost all photos from modern phone will be rejected if based on file weight, when they could have been accepted with proper image resizing and compression.

Can you imagine that 100 images only at 5MB each will occupy half a GB on hard drive? When with proper resizing and compression they could have been reduced by a factor of X10.

There is just no credible replacement for true image resizing.
Why this is not already in the product is incomprehensible.

Can you tell me if you can use another plugin for compressing photos (for example, resmush) and if they can to work with Advanced Attachments? P.S. If it's not written very well, sorry. I use google translate.
