Hello,

for a certain period, the comment section of my blog was for registered users only.
Everyone had their own nickname and we all lived in peace, flowers and harmony.

Then, I decided to allow guests to vote as well and a war started: a couple of users started commenting as guests under the nickname of registered users. It was a giant mess, nobody would understand when something said was true from the original person or a troll.

It was super funny, but people got pissed so I have to fix this.

How can I set WPdiscuz so that guests cannot take already registered nicknames as their own?

Best regards,

Michel

Sorry, I wrote "vote" the whole time, but I actually meant "comment".

Guests are taking registered member's nicknames to comment on their behalf and troll them, that's what's happening.

English is not my main language, my bad.

Hi Michel,

you're talking about something that has no solution in Wordpress default comment system too. I'm rally sorry but there is no way to control this and there is no any comment system which can do this.

Hi,

i have a simlilar Problem with that: if a Guest uses a regigstrated Nickname, wpDicuz show the Avatar from that member!

With std. comment-function, only a std. Avatar is viewed!
We hide user-Titels on our Page, so it is not clear, from where the comment came!

Is there a solution for that? i would assume, that deactivating individual Avatars for Guests would be a must have...?

cheers

Pete

Ah, i just found out, that the e-Mail-field for Guests is allways required, but in main-configuration we have deactivated required E-Mail...?

If somebody uses a E-Mail from an registered User, his Avatar appears to this comment...

Is this a Bug or a feature? 😀

This doesn't have direct relation to wpDiscuz. This is a WordPress avatar logic, it depends on entered email and based on Gravatar system. wpDiscuz just use WordPress avatar functions, it doesn't do an extra actions. You can disable wpDiscuz and test with default comment system.

Thx for your answer Tom. Yes you are right.
Because of the possibility to modify the Form for wpDiscuz, it would be a good solution, if you could disable the E-Mail Field, if it is'nt set to required.

Or is there another Plugin, what i can add to your Plugin? I can't find one!

For me it makes no sense, that unregistrated Users can use a registrated Member-Name AND can use his Avatar, if hie know the E-Mail of that user!

I would like to prevent this in combination with using your great plugin!

I'm sorry but there is no way to add a comment in database without emails, email is a required component for comments, thus there is no way to remove email field.
